Direct Election of All Texas Judges

All judges at every level of the Texas judiciary shall be elected directly by the people of Texas, and the Governor shall have no authority to appoint any judge to any court; vacancies shall be filled exclusively by special election to uphold the Texas Constitution’s principles of popular sovereignty and separation of powers, ensure full judicial accountability, prevent overreach that violates parental rights, and fulfill the Republican Party of Texas mission to protect children and families.

This resolution does not duplicate any existing Platform Plank. It is supported by the following RPT Platform provisions: Preservation of Constitution (including the plank limiting judicial overreach), Parental Rights, Family Law (Equal Parenting), and the Preamble and Principles (traditional family as the strength of the nation and solemn duty to protect innocent life and develop responsible citizens). It is further supported by Rule No. 4 of the Rules of the Republican Party of Texas, which adopts the Texas Constitution by reference.
